MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The teams of
Sarah O'Neil and
Lauren Frazier, and
Christine Ordway and
Gabby Sullivan won doubles matches on Thursday, but the Big Red women's tennis team was defeated by 74th-ranked College of Charleston, 4-1.
Cornell (7-4) took the first point of the match with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in doubles. The freshman team of
Rosemary Li and
Sara Perelman fell in the No. 3 doubles match, marking the first time in 11 matches this season that the pairing has lost.
The Cougars then won the first four singles matches for their 12th straight victory. Sophomore
Ryann Young remains defeated just once from her post at No. 3 singles, having rallied to force a third set in her match with Samantha Maddox before the match was halted. The No. 6 match between Perelman and C of C's Olivia McMillan was also in the third set when play stopped.
The Big Red concludes its Spring Break trip at 2 p.m. Friday with a match at 11-1 Coastal Carolina.
