PHILADELPHIA – Three Big Red fencers –
Victoria Wines,
Olivia Weller and
Angelica Gangemi – earned medals today at the 35th annual Temple Open, the largest individual collegiate tournament in the nation. Wines (epee) and Gangemi (foil) earned gold, while Weller took the silver.
Altogether, seven Cornell fencers finished in the top eight in their respective weapons, with freshman
Gabriella Zusin and junior
Ediona Sera taking fifth and seventh, respectively, in foil, while sophomore
Anastasia Turin took sixth and freshman
Regina Chen took seventh in saber.
In addition to three top-eight finishers, the Big Red's foil squad had the best showing of the day, with freshmen
Julia Telischi (12th) and
Luby Kiriakidi (15th) finishing in the top 15 of 88 competitors.
Epee was also strong with senior
Yolanda Li (13th) and freshman
Jasmine Chow (18th) finishing in the top 20, while junior
Jenny Zheng rounded out the squad in 27th place.
Junior
Alaina Uhouse (13th) earned a top 15 finish, while junior
Sarah Gruman (24th) and senior
Kristen Holl (49th) also competed well for the Big Red.
Cornell is back in action next weekend when it travels to the Vassar Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 9.
