WALTHAM, Mass. – The Big Red fencing team closed the 2014 calendar year with four victories today at the Brandeis Invitational, defeating the host Judges, as well as Boston College, MIT and Air Force. The team's lone loss on the day came in a 15-12 decision to perennial national power St. John's.
 
The foil squad led the way, going 36-9 on the day and earning victories against all five opponents. The squad was led by Ediona Sera, who went a perfect 15-0 in her bouts, while Angelica Gangemi (8-4) and
Luby Kiriakidi (8-1) chipped in eight wins apiece.
 
The epee squad went 25-20 overall, with wins against MIT, Air Force and Brandeis.  Victoria Wines posted double-digit victories (10-5), while Olivia Weller (8-6) and Jenny Zheng also finished with winning records.
 
The sabre squad finished the day at 21-24 with victories against Air Force and Brandies. Regina Chen was the only sabre fencer to finish with a winning record, going an impressive 11-4 on the day.
