THE MATCH UP: The Big Red will play its final game of the 2015 season when it travels to Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 8 for a contest at noon. Cornell lost its last outing to No. 20 Princeton to slip to 10-6 on the year and 4-2 in the Ivy League, while the Big Green spit a pair of games last weekend to run its record to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Â

Â
THE SERIES WITH DARTMOUTH: The Big Green holds a commanding lead in the series with Cornell, going 22-13-1 against the Big Red. The teams first met in 1979, a 0-0 tie, and Dartmouth won the next five meetings before Cornell snapped its losing streak in 1985 with a 1-0 victory. From then, the series was fairly even until 1998 when Dartmouth began an eight-game winning-streak against the Big Red. Cornell ended the Big Green's run in 2006 and won five straight, its most consecutive wins in the series, before falling in consecutive one-goal games (including one overtime contest) in 2011 and 2012 … The Big Red has won the last two outings by a combined score of 7-1 to improve head coach
Donna Hornibrook improved to 7-4 in the series.
Â
LAST TIME VS. DARTMOUTH: It may have been Senior Day on the field, but it was a trio of freshmen –
Sam McILwrick,
Krysten Mayers, and
Kelly Johnson – that lifted the Big Red over Dartmouth, 4-1, on Nov. 8, 2014 at Marsha Dodson Field. With the win, Cornell tied the school record for wins in a season (11), set during the 2010 and 2008 campaign. McILwrick had her best offensive day of the season, scoring off three penalty corners for the hat trick, while Mayers added a goal in a 4-0 run that erased and early Dartmouth lead. The game was played at a tremendous pace with ample scoring opportunities for both squads. Cornell held the edge in shots (22-17), while the Big Green had more penalty corners (13-12). Dartmouth goalie Ellen Meyer made 10 saves, while Johnson matched a career-high with five. The Big Red also earned a defensive save from
Luisa Schulte-Bockum. Dartmouth put tremendous pressure on the Big Red early in the contest, earning four penalty corners in the first 10 minutes of the game, before converting on its fifth attempt with a direct shot by Brooke Van Valkenburg at the 11:49 mark. Less than five minutes later, McILwrick got the equalizer when she tipped a penalty corner shot from
Marisa Siergiej. The duo teamed up again to score on the same exact play just before the half to send the home team into the intermission with the 2-1 lead. Siergiej finished with two assists.Mayers scored the only goal on the day that didn't come off a penalty corner, as she collected a rebound off a Meyer's save and roofed it into the net to make it a 3-1 game at the 54:42 mark. With less than 10 minutes to play, McILwrick struck again with a direct shot off a penalty corner to account for the 4-1 final. Both
Taylor Standiford and
Ann DiPastina were credited with the assist. With the helpers, Standiford set a new school record for assists in a single season (12), while DiPastina moved into second place (11).Â

Â
RANKED OPPONENTS: The Big Red's schedule features five teams that are ranked in the latest NFHCA Division I Poll – No. 1 Syracuse, No. 8 Albany, No. 15 Delaware, No. 18 Princeton and No. 19 Maine … A season ago, Cornell defeated No. 20 Maine on Oct. 26, 2014, giving the Big Red its first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 19 Syracuse, 3-2, on Oct. 25, 2007.
Â
ONE OF THE BEST: Head coach
Donna Hornibrook ranks among the best when it comes to winning. Among active Division I head coaches, she ranks 16th overall for winning percentage (.631) and 18th for career wins (219), rankings that would be higher if the NCAA counted her 60-8-6 record at Canada's New Brunswick.
Â
CLOSE CALLS: Cornell's 2-1 loss to No. 10 Albany on Oct. 20 continued the Big Red's trend of playing in one-goal games. Since the start of the 2006 season, the Big Red has lost 65 games, with 40 of those coming by a single goal, including 18 in overtime. During that same span, Cornell has won 87 games, with 42 coming in one-goal games, including 11 in overtime.
Â
EARLY LEADS: Scoring first has been a big part of the Big Red's success in recent years. Since Coach Hornibrook has taken over the program, Cornell has posted an impressive 92-14 record in games in which they have scored first. Conversely, the team has won only 14 games in which they have had to come back from an early deficit to win. The first was Coach Hornibrook's very first victory with the team, a 6-3 win over Lehigh in 2004, with the latest coming on Nov. 8, 2014 as Cornell overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Dartmouth, 4-1.
Â
KNOCK THREE TIMES: When the Big Red fell to Penn, 4-3, on Sept. 21, 2013 it marked only the fourth time in Coach Hornibrook's career with Cornell that the team scored three goals and lost the contest. Under Coach Hornibrook, the Big Red has won 69-of-73 games in which it scores at least three goals, a mark that was raised when it defeated Lehigh (7-0) on Oct. 25, 2015.
Â
SHUTOUT STREAK: The Big Red had shutout four straight opponents – Sacred Heart (9/11), Monmouth (9/13), Vermont (9/19) and Maine (9/20) – matching the school record for consecutive shutouts, set twice before. The last time Cornell had four straight clean sheets came over the 1990 and 1991 seasons, as the Big Red defeated Dartmouth (1-0), Colgate (1-0) and Brown (1-0, OT) to close the 1990 season before opening the 1991 campaign with a 5-0 win over CW Post. Cornell has had four straight shutouts in the same season just once before, blanking Brockport (3-0), Lafayette (0-0, 2OT), Colgate (1-0) and Princeton (0-0, 2OT) in 1985.
Â
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: Seniors
Taylor Standiford and
Marisa Siergiej have been named team captains for the 2015 season. Standiford also served as team captain a year ago.
Â
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE (A NEW) HOME: The Big Red is 41-22 all-time on Marsha Dodson Field. Collectively, the team has outscored its opponents by a margin of 145-100 and has taken significantly more shots (1,077-650) than its opponents. The defense has been equally solid in the circle, allowing just 346 penalty corners (5.5 per game).
Â
2014 SEASON RECORDS:
* A year ago, Cornell posted an 11-5 record overall, tying the school record for victories in a single season, previously set in 2008 and 2010.
* The squad set a school record for points (127), points per game (7.94), goals (45), and assists (37) in a single-season.
* Defensively, the team set a school record, allowing just 3.9 penalty corners per contest.
Â
TICKLE THE ALL-IVY: Following the 2014 season,
Marisa Siergiej was one of four unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections. In addition to Siergiej, freshman
Sam McILwrick and sophomore
Katy Weeks were named second-team All-Ivy, while both senior

Marisa Siergiej become just the 12th player in Big Red history to be named first-team All-Mideast Region All-American.
Â
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Cornell earned the first national ranking in program history on Sept. 30, 2014 coming in at No 19 in the 2014 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Big Red fell out of the poll the following week after a 1-0 loss to American, but may have managed to hold onto its No. 19 ranking if it weren't for the fact that Indiana upset No. 4 Duke on the same day to jump into the rankings at No. 18.
Â
UP NEXT: The Big Red's game with Dartmouth concludes the 2015 season.
