ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team was defeated by Columbia and Virginia on Saturday in a pair of matches at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Alex Jung and
Illia Presman both won each of their respective matches on the day for Cornell (2-3), which entered the week ranked 13th nationally by the College Squash Association.
The Big Red opened the day with a 7-2 setback against fourth-ranked Columbia. Presman accounted for Cornell's first point with a four-set victory at No. 5, then Jung won the Big Red's other match in the final rotation at No. 7.
Cornell then dropped a close tilt with 17th-ranked Virginia, 5-4, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Cavaliers swept the opening rotation to take the lead, and Presman and
Perry Hanson responded with four-set victories to make the score 4-2 entering the final rotation. Jung and
Andy Muran won, but the Big Red's rally came up just short.
Cornell is idle through the semester break before it starts back up in mid-January with Ivy League matches against Dartmouth and Harvard.
