ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team split a pair of matches Saturday at Belkin International Squash Courts, rebounding from a 7-2 loss to Columbia with an 8-1 over Virginia. Senior Michèle Garceau (No. 3) and sophomore Lucy Martin (No. 8) won each of their matches for Cornell, which wraps up the fall semester portion of its schedule with a 3-1 record.
 
The Big Red started off Saturday's play with a loss to seventh-ranked Columbia in the squads' Ivy League opener. Garceau shook off an opening set loss to win in four to limit the Lions' advantage after the first rotation to 2-1. Columbia then swept the first two matches of the next rotation to take a commanding lead, but Martin won in three to keep the Big Red alive entering the final wave. Columbia went on to win the final three matches, defeating Cornell for just the second time in 10 all-time meetings between the programs.
 
Cornell wrapped up the day with a dominating performance against 13th-ranked Virginia, which is in its first year at varsity status. The Big Red won all matches in the top and bottom thirds of the order in three sets.
 
Cornell now takes a six-week hiatus for finals and intersession before reconvening for its next matches in mid-January against Dartmouth and Harvard.
