ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior
Kenan Ong won his match at the No. 9 position, but that was all the men's squash team could muster in an 8-1 loss in its regular-season finale on Wednesday against Rochester at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (6-12), which is now a virtual lock to stay No. 15 in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings entering the College Squash Association's national championships Feb. 23-25, got its lone point from Ong's third victory of the season. All of his wins have also come in the minimum three games – though Wednesday's match was close, with his opponent winning at least eight points per game.
Eighth-ranked Rochester (7-5) won the other two matches of the opening rotation to take the early lead. Junior
Perry Hanson won the first game of his match at No. 2 in extra points, but the rest of the middle wave went the way of the Yellowjackets to clinch.
Cornell will turn its attention to the Hoehn Cup, the 'B' Flight of the national championships. It will learn its official seeding and match assignments early next week.
