PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The women's squash team essentially shored up a berth for the Howe Cup on Saturday, sweeping Brown, 9-0, at Pizzitola Squash Courts.
Sophomore
Lucy Martin was the lone member of the team to win in three games during the opening rotation in a five-court format, with the other three scoring matches going four. Cornell (10-3) also got three-game sweeps from
Lauren Leizman (No. 9) and
Margaux Losty (No. 3) to eventually cruise to the victory – which also gives Cornell a 13-12 lead in the all-time series between the programs.
Cornell entered the week tabbed eighth in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings, which is on pace to be the final berth in the Howe Cup — the top flight of the College Squash Association's National Championships. Brown (5-6) is ranked 10th. So with its final three regular-season matches against higher-ranked teams, Cornell appears destined to be ranked at least eighth heading into nationals.
The Big Red wraps up a busy stretch at noon Sunday, when it visits Yale (8-3).
