DIFD (Do It For Daron) is about inspiring conversations, raising awareness, and transforming youth mental health. In December 2010, 14-year-old Daron Richardson died by suicide. Her parents turned their grief into the public call-to-action that is DIFD. DIFD supports education, awareness, and research initiatives that encourage young people to talk openly about mental illness and to ask for help when needed. The DIFD movement is especially close to Cornell's hearts. Daron's older sister, Morgan, played for Cornell women's ice hockey team before she graduated in 2016. In honor of Daron and the organization made in her name, the Big Red women's ice hockey team hopes to continue to raise awareness and inspire conversations about mental health in a broader scope within and outside the athletics community. The team is asking everyone to donate to the EARS (Empathy, Assistance, and Referral Service) on campus. EARS is a peer-led counseling and training program open to all members of the Cornell community: anonymous, free, and confidential.
