ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior pitcher Paul Balestrieri surrendered just one run in a seven-inning complete game, and junior Cole Rutherford drove in the winning runs in both games of baseball's Ivy League doubleheader sweep of Harvard on Saturday at Hoy Field.

Cornell (8-9, 2-0 Ivy League) won the first game, 5-1, behind a four-run sixth inning. The Big Red then shoke off a four-run deficit in the night cap, ralling for a 6-4 victory and the program's first season sweep of Harvard (7-12, 0-2 Ivy League) since 1995.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast, Sunday's doubleheader against Dartmouth has been postponed. The makeup date will be announced at a later time.

Game 1: CORNELL 5, HARVARD 1 (Box Score)
Balestrieri fanned seven and issued just one walk in his seven innings to earn his first victory at the start of the rotation.

The Big Red mustered just four hits against Harvard  starter Nick Gruener, but it was opportunistic in pulling ahead in the sixth inning. Cornell led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error, then the Big Red loaded the bases with no outs. Junior Cole Rutherford drove in the go-ahead run on single through the left side of the infield. C.J. Price then scored on a fielder's choice on Dale Wickham's grounder to second base.

Senior Eliot Lowell scored the Big Red's first run after reaching on catcher's interference and coming home on junior C.J. Price's triple to right-center.

Game 2: CORNELL 6, HARVARD 4 (Box Score)
Harvard jumped out to a quick four-run lead while chasing the Big Red's starter in the third inning, but sophomore Justin Lewis worked three innings of scoreless relief as the Big Red started to chip away at its deficit.

Singles by sophomore Ellis Bitar and senior Jordan Winawer preceded a walk to Lowell, loading the bases with one out in the fifth inning. One of Harvard starter Sean Poppen's three wild pitches allowed Bitar to score, then senior Jacob Weston drove in Winawer with a groundout to cut the visitors' lead in half. Price then blasted his second home run of the season over the wall in right field in the sixth inning, and Cornell trailed by just one run.

The Big Red finally chased Poppen in the seventh after Lowell singled and stole second, and senior Jacob Weston drew a walk. Price was hit by a pitch to load the bases, then Wagner worked an RBI walk to tie the game. Rutherford followed by serving an opposite field single to drive in two more runs and give the Big Red a 6-4 lead.

Senior Michael Byrne earned the victory with four innings of shutout relief, working around a one-out double in the ninth. Bitar was 2-for-4 with a double.
