MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The men's squash team wrapped up its busy weekend with a pair of pivotal victories against Franklin & Marshall and Middlebury to defend its current national standing.
Cornell (5-6), which entered the weekend ranked 15th in the nation by the College Squash Association, fended 16th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 5-4, on Saturday at Middlebury Squash Center. Junior
Alex Jung had the clinching point, winning in four games at No. 7. The Big Red actually trailed after the opening rotation, despite a strong win in three from senior
Andrew Stone at No. 9. Cornell took control with a middle-rotation sweep, including a key rally to win in five games from senior
Ian Rothweiler at No. 5.
The Big Red then improved to 5-0 all-times against the Panthers with Sunday's 6-3 victory over the hosts – though it certainly had a scare after Middlebury stormed out to a 3-0 lead. But it was all Cornell from there, with Rothweiler (No. 5) and junior
Perry Hanson (No. 2) each winning in three before sophomore
Jared Scherl knotted the score at 3 with a four-game win at No. 8. Freshman
Illia Presman (No. 4) gave Cornell its first lead, then junior
Andy Muran clinched the victory with a sweep at No. 1. Jung punctuated the comeback with a five-game win at No. 7.
