WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- A small group of members from the Cornell men's track and field team competed in the Dan Stimson Invitational hosted by the College of William & Mary on Saturday. With only 21 athletes competing in just nine events, the team still scored 65 points to finish fourth overall.

Leading the way for the Big Red were event-winners
Oseoba Airewele and
Tony Bridges. Airewele won the triple jump with a mark of 15.29m (50-2 ft). Bridges took top honors in the long jump with a mark of 6.97m (22- 10.5 ft).

Bridges' victory was part of a 1-2-3 sweep in the long jump. He was joined on the podium by
Sam Oravec (6.92m, 22-8.5 ft) and
James Seaton (6.73m, 22-1 ft).

Other medalists for the men included
Tyler Fisher and Rob Whitney taking second and third, respectively, in the 3000m. Fisher's 8:27.93 and Witney's 9:30.57 were both new personal records for the junior duo.

Tomas Reimer (4th, 3:59.90) and
Jamie Granata (6th 4:02.02) also scored points for the team in the 1500m.
Marek Nowak (7th, 4:02.10), Kevin VanVorst (8th 4:03.26) and Ed Belsoi (10th, 4:04.60) joined Reimer and Granata in recording new personal bests.

Zeke Cohen led the throwers with by a new personal best in the hammer throw. His mark of 54.70m (179-5 ft) was over a meter better than his previous top performance.
Ian Frost also picked up a point for Cornell in his hammer throw debut with a toss of 53.97m (177 ft), a throw which is also an IC4A qualifier.

A couple of other first-year athletes making their debuts for the Big Red were javelin throwers Joshua Johnson and Nathan Lawrence. Johnson took fifth with a throw of 43.56m (142-11 ft) and Lawrence nabbed 6th with his throw of 42.28m (138-8 ft).

Billy Powers rounded out the strong showings for the freshman class. Despite some gusting winds he finished fourth in 54.88 in his 400m hurdle debut.

The team will look to build on its strong start next week when they head to California for the start of the annual trip spring break trip.
