About the Big Red

  • Two weeks into the new year, Cornell is ranked fourth in both the USCHO.com poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. The Big Red is 14-1-2 on the season with a 8-0-2 record in ECAC Hockey. Cornell has earned wins against Quinnipiac (twice), #6 Princeton (twice), St. Lawrence, Yale and Brown in ECAC Hockey and the team tied #6 Clarkson. Outside of the conference, the Big Red beat #8 Robert Morris twice, Syracuse and #6 Ohio State. The one loss came on November 29 at #6 Ohio State. To open 2020, the Big Red swept Mercyhurst with a 6-2 win and a 2-1 victory in overtime on Jan. 4-5 before tying Union 1-1 and beating Rensselaer 2-0 on the road. 
  • With 17 games under her belt, senior defender Jaime Bourbonnais leads the team with 23 points on three goals and 20 assists. She has earned a point in all but two games (at St. Lawrence and #6 Princeton), including three games with three assists. Her longest point streak of the season was six games.
  • Junior forward Maddie Mills follows with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists. Mills has had five multi-point games. Most recently, she assisted the lone goal against Union (1/10).
  • Senior forward Kristin O'Neill follows in third place with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists.  Though she did not notch a point in the Big Red's last game, O'Neill holds the longest point streak on the season after earning a point in 10-straight games. 
  • Lindsay Browning became the first goalie in program history to open the season with three shutouts when the team beat Quinnipiac, 1-0. In just 17 games, Browning has 321 saves for a .958 save percentage. The junior goalie has let 14 shots past her and into the net for a .83 goals against average. She earned her fifth shutout of the season at Rensselaer (1/11).

Last Week in Review

  • Cornell traveled to the Capital District to play Union and Rensselaer on Jan. 10-11. 
  • On Friday, Union scored the first goal in the first period. Senior Kristin O'Neill scored the Big Red's lone goal in the second. When neither team was able to score in the third, or overtime, period, the game ended in a tie.
  • On Saturday, Cornell's defense shone as defenders Micah Zandee-Hart and Jaime Bourbonnais scored goals in the 2-0 win. Junior goalie Lindsay Browning saved 18 shots to secure her sixth career shutout and enter the program's all-time top-ten for career shutouts. 
 

First Points

  • Freshman Kaitlyn Isaac earned her first career point. She assisted Zandee-Hart's goal on Saturday against Rensselaer. 
 

About Dartmouth

  • The Big Green started its season right off with an ECAC Hockey game against Harvard (10/25). Beginning with the 7-4 loss against the Crimson, Dartmouth went 4-7-2 in the first half of the season. In double overtime, the Big Green beat Brown 3-2 (11/2). A two-game series against non-conference opponent RIT brought a 1-1 weekend on Nov. 15-16. Similarly, Dartmouth split Thanksgiving weekend with Maine. In both split weekends, the Big Green lost on Friday and won on Saturday. Dartmouth closed 2019 with a win against Franklin Pierce on Dec. 13. Since the start of 2020, the Big Green beat Rensselaer (1/3), tied Union (1/4), and lost to #7 Princeton (1/10) and Quinnipiac (1/11). 
  • Freshman forward CC Bowlby and sophomore forward Gabby Billing lead the team with 13 points each. Bowlby has seven goals and six assists while Billing has five goals and eight assists. 
  • The first-year is the team's leader in goals with her most recent score being the lone goal against Quinnipiac (1/11).
  • The second-year player leads the team in assists. She has had three multi-point games on the season. Her most recent game with points was against Union (1/4). She scored two goals in the 3-3 tie. 
  • Freshman Hannah Humphreys leads the goalies with 15 starts for 941:55. With 370 saves and 45 goals against, Humphreys has a .892 save percentage and a 2.87 goals against average. 
 

The Series vs Dartmouth

  • The Big Green has the slight 42-38-7 edge in the series that dates back to the 1978-79 season, but the Big Red has dominated the series in recent years. 
  • Cornell currently owns an eight-game win streak in the series and is unbeaten in 14 of the last 15 games with a mark of 13-1-1.
  • Last year, the Big Red closed the season with two shutouts against Dartmouth. On Oct. 27, 2018, Cornell earned its first shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory. Seniors Kristin O'Neill, Jaime Bourbonnais and Micah Zandee-Hart scored the first three goals, while Pippy Gerace '19 sealed the win with a fourth tally. O'Neill led the team with three points in the game. On Jan. 18, 2019, seniors Paige Lewis and Jaime Bourbonnais each scored a goal, as well as Lenka Serdar '19, to aid in the 3-0 win. Sophomore Gillis Frechette led with two points on two assists against the Big Green. 
 

About Harvard

  • The Crimson began ECAC Hockey play right away against Dartmouth on Oct. 25 with a 7-4 win. Harvard continued with four more wins against Brown (11/1), Yale (11/2), #7 Princeton (11/8) and Quinnipiac (11/9) before entering play outside of the league. In its four non-conference games, the Crimson fell to Boston University (11/19), New Hampshire (11/23), #2 Wisconsin (11/29) and #1 Minnesota (11/30) to close November. Harvard closed 2019 with three wins against Yale (12/6), Brown (12/7) and #9 Boston College (12/31).
  • Since the beginning of 2020, Harvard is 2-1-1 with wins against Union (1/3) and Rensselaer (1/4), a loss to Quinnipiac (1/10), and a tie against #7 Princeton (1/11). The Crimson is 9-1-1 in ECAC Hockey games and 10-5-1 overall.
  • Sophomore forward Dominique Petrie leads the team with 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists. 22 of her points were notched in her seven multi-point games. Most recently, Petrie scored two goals in the 3-3 tie against Princeton (1/11). 
  • Sophomore forward Kristin Della Rovere follows with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists. 
  • Della Rovere has collected a points in 12 of the 16 games she has played, with six multi-point games. She most recently assisted two goals against Princeton (1/11).
  • Sophomore Lindsay Reed leads the goalies with 13 starts for 785:01 in goal. With 414 saves and 37 goals against, Reed has a .918 save percentage and 2.83 goals against average. 
 

The Series vs Harvard

  • Harvard leads the overall series 56-31-6, which dates back to the 1981-82 season.
  • The Big Red enjoyed success in recent years with a seven-game unbeaten streak against the Crimson with four wins and two ties. 
  • Last year, the Big Red won both games in the series. On Oct. 26, 2018, Cornell went two-for-two on the power play for the first two goals of the game. Seniors Grace Graham and Jaime Bourbonnais each earned a goal before fellow classmate Paige Lewis sunk a puck in the net for the game-winning third goal in the 3-2 win. On Jan. 19, 2019, the Big Red took down the Crimson in a 6-0 shutout. Junior Maddie Mills earned her first career hat trick while senior Grace Graham, Lenka Serdar '19 and Pippy Gerace '19 contributed the other three goals. 
 

Two Peas in a Pod

  • Micah Zandee-Hart and Kristin O'Neill will be serving as the team's captains for the second year.
  • Zandee-Hart led the 2018-19 squad with 55 blocks, while also finishing third with 17 assists and sixth with 21 points.
  • O'Neill led last year's team with 22 goals while finishing second in points (38) and tying for first in power-play goals (7).
 

Border Battle

  • Out of the 28 players on the roster, 17 are from the United States while nine call Canada home. 
  • The Americans have representatives from Minnesota (4), Massachusetts (3), California (2), New York (2), Michigan (1), Iowa (1), Illinois (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (1) and Connecticut (1).
  • The Canadians on the roster come from five different provinces: Ontario (5), New Brunswick (1), Saskatchewan (1), British Columbia (1) and Newfoundland and Labrador (1).
 

About Head Coach Doug Derraugh

  • Now entering his 15th season directing the Cornell women's ice hockey program in 2019-20, Doug Derraugh has brought the Big Red women to their place among the nation's elite.
  • Derraugh has a 267-150-42 record in his first 14 seasons as the head coach of the Big Red, with his 200th coming in the form of a 4-2 win against Yale in 2016.
  • Cornell has made the ECAC Hockey Tournament each of the last 12 seasons, won the tournament four of the last 10 years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in seven of those seasons.
  • The 2019 American Hockey Coaches Association National Coach of the Year guided the Big Red to the national title game in his fifth season and back-to-back-to-back NCAA Frozen Four appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Cornell returned to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2019 after finishing as National Quarter Finalists in 2013, 2014 and 2017.
  • He led the team to five consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in program history in 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14.
 

About Associate Head Coach Edith Racine

  • Edith Racine enters her first season as the associate head coach after serving as an assistant coach for 10 years prior. 
  • Under her direction, the Big Red has seen vast improvement among its goaltenders. During her time at Lynah, Racine has most notably coached Amanda Mazzota, Lauren Slebodnick, Paula Voorheis and Marlene Boissonnault.
  • During her first season with the Big Red, Racine coached Mazzota to finish as the national leader in shutouts (11) in the 2009-10 season, breaking the Cornell single season record for both men's and women's ice hockey. Mazzota was also the national leader for goals against average (1.11) after the close of the 2010-11 season, as well as the runner-up in save percentage. 
  • Slebodnick finished her career with the top spot in Cornell history for career wins (68) and sixth-best goals against average in the nation during the 2012-13 season.
  • Voorheis was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team in 2013-14. She finished her career after the 2016-17 campaign ranked second all-time in save percentage (.925) and saves (2,238) and third in goals against average (2.14). 
  • Most recently, Racine has coached Marlene Boissonnault to national success. Boissonnault finished her senior season (2018-19) ranked second in the nation, and first in the ECAC, in goals against average (1.64). Boissonnault was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week six times in her career (2x in 2018-19 and 4x in 2017-18). She finished the second-winningest goalie in program history with 56 wins. 
 

Up Next

  • After hosting an Ivy weekend at Lynah, the Cornell women's ice hockey team will split the weekend with Colgate. The Big Red will host the Raiders on Friday before traveling to Hamilton, N.Y. to compete in Colgate's Class of 1965 Arena.
