WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The women's tennis team wrapped up an impressive weekend Sunday against Buffalo with its second straight 7-0 sweep. The Big Red won all three doubles matches before nailing down straight-set victories in five of six singles matches.
Sophomore
Ryann Young and freshman
Gabby Sullivan got the Big Red started with a convincing 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, with the No. 1 tandem of juniors
Sarah O'Neil and
Christine Ordway securing the match's first point with an 8-3 victory.
Ordway got the singles' portion of the match started with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot over Marta Stoyanova. Sullivan followed suit at No. 4, dropping just five games in her win over Kira Golenko. Freshman
Sara Perelman sewed up the match at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Miranda Podlas.
Young (No. 3), freshman
Rosemary Li (No. 6) and O'Neil (No. 1) wrapped up the sweep. O'Neil prevailed in a pair of tiebreakers to aveng a fall loss to Buffalo's Tanvi Shah in the third-place match in the A Flight of the Cornell Fall Invitational.
Cornell has now beaten Buffalo in their three meetings, all over the last four seasons. The Big Red returns to action next weekend when it attempts to defend its title at the ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Yale.
