Box Score (PDF)

ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 20 Big Red women's lacrosse team saw eight different players score and its defense forced Dartmouth into 17 turnovers en route to a 12-5 victory Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. The margin of victory was the greatest in the series since Cornell defeated the Big Green by eight goals in the 2002 season.

Junior Catherine Ellis led the Big Red (9-1, 4-0 Ivy League) with five points on two goals and a career-high three assists. Classmate Amie Dickson had a pair of each, and senior Emily Tripodi and sophomore Joey Coffy each had two goals and an assist. The Cornell defense held its opponent to fewer than six goals for the fifth time this season, keeping Ivy League leading scorer Jaclyn Leto off the board.

Taryn Deck led the Big Green (5-5, 1-3 Ivy League) with a goal and two assists.

Coffy staked the Big Red a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into the contest when she found a soft spot in the defense, took a pass from Dickson, turned and fired it home. From there the Big Red defense went to work, forcing the visitors into three turnovers. Ellis made it a 2-0 game with a drive to the cage at the 21:25 mark. Another Dartmouth turnover, this one caused by junior Catie Smith, led to a free position goal on the other end by junior Kristy Gilbert for her team-leading seventh free position goal of the season.

The Big Green notched consecutive goals to make it a 3-2 game, but Ellis found Olivia Mattyasovsky cutting to the goal and put a perfect pass into the senior's stick that she redirected into the net. Moments later, Tripodi made it a three-goal game once again as she drove to the cage and beat Wahle up high. Tripodi has recorded at least a point in each of Cornell's last nine games.

With just under four minutes to play in the half, Dartmouth scored on a two-on-one fast break and the teams went into the break with Cornell leading, 5-2.

The Big Red scored the first four goals of the second half to make it a 9-3 game with 18:28 to play. Dickson and Ellis had a hand in the first two goals of the run, with Dickson scoring off a pass from Ellis, before setting up Ellis on the next Big Red tally.

Coffy picked up a loose ball off a Dartmouth turnover near midfield and streaked 50 yards to goal and cashed in off a shot that bounced off Wahle into the net. Dickson then gave Cornell a six-goal advantage (9-3) with 18:28 to play in the contest.

A pair of Dartmouth goals in a span of 29 seconds made it a 9-5 contest with just over 16 minutes to play, but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Cornell rattled off the final three goals of the game to take the 12-5 victory. Senior defender Catherine Moubayed registered her first career goal to start the final run for the home team before Shelby McNeilly scored with 7:21 to play. Tripodi netted the final goal of the contest on an assist from Ellis, her third of the day.

Junior goalkeeper Renee Poullott finished with four ground balls and five saves, including a big stop on a crucial free-position attempt in the second half. In front of her, Smith caused three turnovers, marking the fifth consecutive game she had caused at least three.

The Big Red has a challenging week ahead, heading to No. 8/9 Penn State on Wednesday before travelling to No. 11 Princeton next Saturday.
