PHILADELPHIA // ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's track and field team wrapped up its busy weekend, which saw it competing in a pair of meets. From Thursday-Saturday the team competed in the Penn Relays at Franklin Field. Then on Sunday, the Big Red returned to Ithaca to host its annual Big Red Invitational.
PENN RELAYS
Senior
Briar Brumley had a career-best finish at the Penn Relays to earn her first medal at the event, placing fifth in the Championship section of the women's steeplechase, as she crossed the line in 10:22.04. Once again bettering the ECAC standard in the 5000m was freshman
Natalie Morris, who posted a time of 17:10.29.
The women's 4x100m of junior co-captain
Jinjer Pearce, sophomore
Kellian Kelly, junior
Brittany Stenekes, and senior
Martha Sam ran a seasonal best of 46.27 on Thursday to advance to Friday's College Final, where they placed a fine fourth in 46.37 in cooler and wetter conditions.
Also advancing to the college final was the 4x400m of freshman
Brooke Overholt (55.9), Pearce (54.8), junior
Corinne Kennedy (55.85), and sophomore Skye Stewrat (55.79), who ran 3:42.54. Demonstrating the group's depth, a different, and younger, line-up of Stewart (56.5), freshman
Elise Burdette (56.6), Kennedy (56.60) and freshman
Kayleigh Furth (57.25) raced to seventh in 3:46.89.
And two other relay squads moved to into the top 10 all-time at Cornell: the shuttle hurdle relay of Stenekes, Overholt, freshman
Gabriela Garza, and freshman
Beatrice Juskeviciute ran 59.71 to place seventh in the Championship of America to move to No. 7 all-time at Cornell. And in the 4x200m, the line-up of Sam, Kelly, Stewart, and Furth finished 10th in the Championship of America in 1:38.14, which is No. 4 all-time at Cornell.
The medley relays were also solid for Cornell. The DMR of senior
Marissa Holl (3:35.46 for 1200), freshman
Allyson Gaedje (58.13 for 400), junior
Victoria Casarrubias (2:15.54 for 800), and junior
Audrey Huelskamp (4:59.87 for 1600) ran 11:48.99 for eighth in the College race and the SMR of Kennedy, Furth, Burdette, and sophomore
Kaitlyn Bonnet ran 4:09.76 and handled a 90 minute delay due to lightning, not to mention adverse conditions during their race, very well to finish ninth in the Championship of America race.

BIG RED INVITATIONAL
Back in Ithaca on Sunday, the team contended with snow flurries in the morning but the meet went forward. Sophomore
Marguerite Lorenzo won the high jump at 5-7 and joining her as an ECAC qualifier in second placed was classmate
Jenna Berry, who also cleared 5-7 (the fourth Cornellian over that height this season). The 5-7 clearance moves Berry into a tie for No. 10 all-time at Cornell.
Maria Siciliano (11-11.75) took first place in the pole vault, whil senior
Zoe Camillaci closed out her career with a fourth place clearance of 10-11.75. Cornell also claimed the triple jump as junior
Julia Valkos reached 35-1.75 and the Big Red grabbed second in the long jump thanks to freshman
Angelica Arroyo, who leapt 17-8, narrowly missing the event win by an inch.
Freshman Gabby Garza started off the day strong, taking second in the 100m hurdles with a seasonal best of 14.73. Next up in the 1500, Cornell swept the top three spots in the event, with the freshmen trio of Isa Meyers (4:49.37),
Lucy Hurt (4:54.08), and
Rachel Green (4:54.80) running away from the field.
The women's 800m runners controlled the race from start to finish, sweeping the top 5 spots and producing some solid results despite a slow start in the cold and windy conditions. Junior
Victoria Casarrubias closed well to win in 2:16.29, followed by senior
Marissa Holl (2:16.63), junior
Sara O'Malley (2:18.25), sophomore
Kaitlyn Bonnet (2:19.57), and freshman
Samantha Law (2:22.52).
Despite the conditions,
Abbey Yatsko managed to win the women's 400m hurdles in 1:05.21, her third race in that event in five days.
In the women's 200m, junior
Anastashia Alfred placed second in a seasonal best time of 27.16 (she was third earlier in the 100 in 12.70) and senior
Lauren Woods closed out her career with a fourth place effort of 64.76 in the 400m.
The track events concluded with the distance events, held in cold and windy conditions. Sophomore
Annie Glodek and freshman
Rebecca Hasser went 1-2 in the 3000m, with times of 10:35.01 and 10:44.54 respectively. Freshman
Erin Hudson closed up the meet for Cornell with a fourth place run of 19:10.40 in the 5000.
