ITHACA, N.Y. – After renewing its rivalry with Dartmouth last season at the Windemere Cup, the No. 7 Cornell men's heavyweight rowing team will seek its second consecutive win over the No. 19 Big Green when it travels to Hanover, N.H. on Saturday, May 2. It will be a full day of racing on the Connecticut River, as the heavyweight competition will be sandwiched between races between the Cornell-Dartmouth women's and lightweight rowing programs.
THE SERIES WITH DARTMOUTH: Cornell took a 4-3 lead in the all-time series with Dartmouth when it swept the Big Green last year at the Windermere Cup in Seattle, Wash. That race renewed a rivalry that had been dormant for 19 years. The teams first met in 1951 with the Big Red earning the victory. Two years later, Cornell won through a Dartmouth disqualification, and the squads would not face each other again for 37 years. The Big Red ran its winning streak to three with a victory in 1990, but the Big Green evened the series at 3-3 by winning the next three meetings (1992, 1993, 1994) before the series took its most recent hiatus.
UP NEXT: The Big Red will have a two week break before traveling to the 2014 EARC Sprints, held on Sunday, May 18 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass
