PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Cornell women's swimming and diving team closed the 2017 Ivy League Championship in style, erasing three school records on the fourth and final day of the event at Brown's Katherine Moran Aquatics Center. The Big Red finished the meet seventh overall with 653 points and set eight new Cornell marks in the process.
Currie Murch Elliot blitzed her own career-best time in the 1,650 free, lowering the second-best time in Cornell history to 16:45.17, more than eight seconds faster than her lifetime best swim. She reached the podium with an eighth-place finish. Also scoring in the mile was
Lizzy Thayer in 13th (16:54.42, No. 4 at Cornell),
Micaela Luders in 17th (17:05.13) and Abby Benkert (17:10.77, No. 10 at Cornell).
Both
Tessa Wilson and
Helen Hsu made the B final in the 200 back, with both going under the previous Cornell record - Wilson coming out with it in 2:00.25 and 2:00.22 to shave nearly a full second off the old mark. Hsu finished with the second-best time in school history with her prelim swim of 2:00.72. The duo finished 13th and 14th overall.
Billy Murch Elliot also went lower than the school record entering the meet, placing 18th overall in 2:00.75, No. 3 all time.
Isabel Obregon also swam a blazing-fast 2:00.86 in the morning time trials, No .4 in Cornell history.
Cornell closed out the meet with yet another school record, this time in the 400 free relay. The quartet of
Cari Stankaitis,
Ellie Belilos,
Sarah Baturka and
Helen Hsu broke a four-year-old record with a 3:23.13, more than a half-second faster than the previous record (3:23.72).
Cari Stankaitis reached the podium with a 50.14 prelim swim the in 100 free, shaving 0.01 off her best time that sits No. 2 all-time at Cornell. She finished eighth overall.
Sarah Baturka finished 12th with a best time of 50.38, No. 3 all-time at Conrell.
Cape Murch Elliot had the team's top time in the 200 breast, finishing 15th overall and recording a 2:18.95 to sit No. 6 all-time at Cornell.
Jordan Silbert was the team's top finisher in the 200 fly, placing 15th overall with a time of 2:03.43 (No. 3 all-time).
Anna Elling was 22nd in 2:04.70, No. 5 all-time.
Both
Ellie Belilos (51.16) and
Laurel Kiselis (52.20) swam the 100 free time trial in the morning session, with Belilos' time ranking fourth all-time at Cornell.
Hannah Bollinger also competed in a swim-off with a 51.27 in the 100 free, good for No. 5 in the Big Red's record book.

Currie Murch Elliot lowered her own school record in two events as Cornell women's swimming and diving continued to rewrite the Big Red record book on day three of the Ivy League Championship meet on Friday evening. Cornell will enter Saturday's final day at Brown's Katherine Moran Aquatics Center sitting in seventh place with 441 points, still in striking distance of Columbia in sixth place (487.5).
The senior opened the day with a blazing fast 4:17.58 in the 400 IM prelims, lowering her own Cornell record by 1.21 seconds. She placed eighth in the finals to reach the podium.
Jordan Silbert (13th, 4:22.32) also scored in the event, touching with the fourth-fastest time ever at the school. Currie then lowered her own school record time in the 1,000 free with a 10:00.53, shaving 0.53 off her previous best mark. She placed 13th overall in the race. Michaela Luders was 15th in 10:06.99, good for second all-time with the Big Red.
Lizzy Thayer also scored in the event, placing 17th with a lifetime best of 10:09.89, fifth-best in Cornell history.

Cape Murch Elliot (1:03.53) finished first, third and fourth in the B final of the 100 breaststroke.
Billy Murch Elliot moved into third all-time at Cornell with Baturka sliding into fourth. Cape jumped into the top 10 at fifth. Also scoring in the event was
Ellie Belilos in 23rd with a 1:05.28.
Helen Hsu finished second in the B final of the 100 back with a best time of 55.26 coming in the prelims - the second-fastest time ever for a Big Red swimmer.
Tessa Wilson won the C final to place 17th and her time of 55.92 in the finals ranks is fifth at Cornell.
Isabelle Cecere (22nd, 56.86) and
Cari Stankaitis (23rd, 57.33) each scored in the 100 fly, placing sixth and seventh in the C final, respectively.
Laurel Kiselis won the C final in the 200 free, posting a best time of 1:50.32, while
Hannah Bollinger (21st, 1:50.75) and
Anna Elling (24th, 1:51.78) also scored. Kiselis ranks third all-time at Cornell after her swim, where Bollinger and Elling already reside in the top five.
The 400 medley relay of
Tessa Wilson,
Billy Murch Elliot,
Helen Hsu and
Cari Stankaitis placed seventh overall with a swim of 3:44.43, third-best all-time at Cornell. Wilson's leadoff leg of 56.11 in the backstroke puts her No. 5 in Big Red history.
The morning time trails saw two additions to Cornell's top 10 lists.
Anna Elling swam a 56.22 in the 100 fly, sixth-best in the Big Red record books.
Sarah Baturka also posted a 56.20 in the 100 back (No. 5 at Cornell).
Kimmy Vitek was the top Cornell diver in the 3-meter, scoring a 226.35 to place 17th overall. Her score sits fourth all-time for the Big Red.
Jessica Leipman was also 19th with a 224.10, a mark that ranks fifth in school history.
