A two-year letterman in wrestling, he competed at 115 and 125 pounds. During his two-year career, he compiled an overall dual meet record of 12-0-1, going 9-0-1 at 115 and 3-0 at 125. In 1923, the team went undefeated and won the Intercollegiate championship, with MacWilliam placing second at 115 pounds in the finals. In 1924, he again was runner-up at 115 in the Intercollegiates, while Cornell finished second to Penn State for the team title. He captained the team his senior year. He was a member of the America wrestling team at the 1924 Olympic Games, where he lost his bout at 123.8 pounds by a decision after a close contest. MacWilliam was retired from the Connecticut Light and Power Col, and a resident of Waterbury, Conn.
