A center on Cornell’s excellent hockey teams from 1967 to 1970, he was tri-captain of the 1970 team that won the NCAA championship and compiled a 29-0 record. He was named to the NCAA tournament all-star team, All-East and All-Ivy first team in 1970. Hughes was the co-recipient of the team’s MVP award as a senior and was named to the All-Ivy second team as a junior. He currently ranks seventh on Cornell’s all-time scoring list with 68-83-151, placing him fifth among the three-season scorers.
