One of the most prolific and innovative golf course architects in the history of the game, he has built 28 courses and remodeled 18 others among Golf Digest’s list of top 100 in the U.S. All told, more than 450 golf courses around the world have been constructed by Jones, and hi has 13 of the top 50 courses in Golf Digest’s world ratings. A number of his courses annually serve as major PGA tour tournament sites, while nine of his courses have been the site of the U.S. Open, seven have been the location for the PGA championship and eight have been the host for World Cup matches. The Cornell University golf course was one of the first he designed (the back nine in 1941 and the front in 1954). In 1982 he received a distinguished alumni award from the Alumni Association of the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornel, in recognition of his professional achievements and dedicated service to agriculture and life science. Jones was born in Ince, England.
