A right-handed pitcher, he was co-captain of the 1970 Cornell baseball team and was named to the Eastern Intercollegiate League first team. He was an honorable mention EIBL selection in 1969. MacLeod topped the 1970 team with an ERA of 1.61 in 17 appearances and compiled an overall record of 7-6, with a 3-3 record and a 1.71 ERA in league competition. He set the Cornell record for most games pitched in a season (17, 1970) and tied the record for most innings pitched in a game (12, vs. Syracuse, 1970). He was voted team MVP following his excellent play during the 1970 season. He was a three-year letter winner as a defensive back in football. He tied for the team lead in interceptions with three in 1968, including one for 40 yards and a TD vs. Brown.
