He was selected to the Associated Press All-America first team at end in 1932 after receiving numerous All-America honorable mention honors in 1931. He received All-East recognition in 1931 and 1932, and played in the '32 East-West game. As a fencer, he competed in the saber and epee events and captained the team as a senior. He also lettered in lacrosse in 1932. He reached the semifinals of the 1936 Olympic Games for Mexico in fencing. In addition, he also played on the Mexican national polo team in international competition. As an undergraduate, he resided in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico, and prepared at Ithaca (N.Y.) High School.
