A three-year letterman in track, he went to England in 1934 as a member of the combined Cornell-Princeton team that competed against Oxford and Cambridge. He placed fifth in the broad jump at the indoor IC4A championships in 1935. He also participated in football, earning his letter in 1935. He was named Cornell’s assistant athletic director under James Lynah in 1936, and was responsible for setting up the accounting system for the department. He resigned in 1939 to become an engineer with the Scott Paper Co., in Philadelphia. Godshall graduated from Upper Darby (Pa.) High School.
