As a junior he was second in  the 75-yard dash at the indoor IC4As, as Cornell won the team title. In the outdoor IC4As in ’22 he placed second in the 100 dash and was third in the 220. The highlight of his Cornell career was a first place finish in the 220-yard dash at the indoor IC4As, and he also took a fourth in the 100 in 1923. He won an Olympic trial heat in the 220 and was selected to attend the 1924 Games as an alternate sprinter.
