He won back-to-back one-mile run titles at the outdoor IC4A championships, capturing first place in 1904 and again in 1905 when Cornell won the team title. He won the mile run and placed second in the five-mile run at the AAU championships in 1904. He set the world record in the mile and a half run at Madison Square Garden in 1905. Elected captain for the 1905-06 season, Munson was a member of the gold medal-winning four-mile relay team at the 1904 Olympics; he also placed fourth in the 1500 meters and was second in the handicap mile at the Games. A letterman in cross country, he placed fourth in the Intercollegiates in 1904, and captained the 1905 team. He earned his degree from New York Law School in 1909 and practiced with firms in New York, Rochester and Chicago. Mr. Munson was residing in Antwerp, N.Y. at the time of his death in 1953.
