Morton co-captained the basketball team as a senior. He set the all-time Cornell varsity single season scoring record as a junior (414 points, 18.0 average) and broke that record in 1953-54, scoring 437 points for a 16.8 average. In three years, he totaled 952 points for a 13.0 scoring mark. In both 1952-53 and 1953-54 he was named to the All-Eastern Intercollegiate League team by the league coaches and in '54 he was named as the league's most valuable player, when Cornell won the Ivy League championship. In addition to basketball, Morton was a shortstop on the baseball team.
