Hall of Fame
He was an excellent first baseman who led the Cornell baseball team in hitting for three years and served as captain as a senior. The Pittsburgh Pirates offered him a major league contract after he graduated from Cornell, but he turned down the offer to play pro ball to enter law school. He also earned a varsity letter as a member of the soccer team in 1926. He was captain of the '26 team and scored a number of late game-winning or game-tying goals.
