He was a three-time All-America, All-ECAC and All-Ivy first-team goaltender for the hockey team.  He set most of the Cornell goaltending records, including career saves, and season and career shutouts and goals against average.  Over his three-year varsity career, he compiled a won-lost record of 76-4-1.  He also backstopped Cornell to the NCAA championship in 1967, and three straight Ivy League and ECAC championship titles.  Following his outstanding career at Cornell, he went on to have a Hall of Fame career in the NHL for the Montreal Canadians.  He contributed to six Stanley Cup championships in nine seasons from 1970-71 to 1978-79.  He was named a first-team NHL All-Star five times and a second-team All-Star once.  He was a five-time recipient of the Vezina Trophy, earned the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s rookie of the year, and was honored with the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the most valuable player for his team in the NHL playoffs in 1971.
