He was a two-time first-team All-Ivy forward on the Big Red soccer teams of 1971 and 1972.  He set Cornell’s all-time records for season (47, 1972) and career points (88) and season (11, 1972) and career goals (40).  His speed and aggressiveness helped Cornell to a two-year record of 24-8 and two NCAA postseason appearances, with the ’72 team making it to the semifinals, where the Big Red lost 1-0 to UCLA.  Huerta was second in scoring in the Ivy League in 1971, with 19 points on nine goals and one assist.  He transferred to Cornell from Morrisville (N.Y.) Community College, where in just two seasons he tallied 80 goals, including 50 in his freshman year, to lead the country in junior college scoring and earn first-team junior college All-America honors.  He was selected by the Rochester Lancers in the 1973 North American Soccer League collegiate draft.
