Martinez-Zorrilla was selected to the Associated Press All-America first team at end in 1932 after receiving numerous All-America honorable mention honors in 1931. He received All-East recognition in 1931 and 1932, and played in the '32 East-West game. As a fencer, Martinez-Zorrilla competed in the saber and epee events and captained the team as a senior. He also lettered in lacrosse in 1932. Martinez-Zorrilla reached the semifinals of the 1936 Olympic Games for Mexico in fencing. In addition, he also played on the Mexican national polo team in international competition.
