As a lacrosse goaltender, Hilliard was an All-Ivy and All-America first team selection in 1967 and 1968, after receiving All-America honorable mention in ’66. He figured prominently in Cornell’s three-year record of 35-1 and two Ivy League titles. In both 1967 and 1968 he was the recipient of the C. M. Kelly Jr. Memorial Award as the outstanding goaltender in Division I. In 1967 he also received the Sydney Cone Trophy for being the outstanding “senior” goaltender – only the second junior in the history of the award to have out won all senior to get the award. He holds Cornell records for most saves in a career, the best goals against average in a season and the best goals against average in a career. The team’s MVP in 1967, he was the Cornell Sun Athlete of the Year as a senior. As an undergraduate he resided in Baltimore, Md., and was a graduate of Boys’ Latin.
