A two-time All-Ivy League selection, Petterson finished in the top 10 at Cornell for career goals and points. The first sophomore captain in the history of the men's lacrosse program, he led the team three times. Petterson was a second-team All-Ivy pick in 2019 and was an honorable mention selection in 2017. As a senior, he finished the 2019 campaign ranked second in the nation in shooting percentage (.557), 17th in goals per game (2.93), and 28th in points per game (4.13). He was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, and to the USILA Team of the Week, twice during the 2019 season. He became the 43rd player in Cornell history to register 100 career points. Petterson led the team in goals (44) and was second overall in assists (19) and points (63) as a junior in 2018. He was twice named Ivy Rookie of the Week in 2016. Petterson was a member of Team Canada's 2016 U19 squad that won the silver medal.
