McKee was named to the NCAA East All-America First Team in 2005 after posting a team-record 10 shutouts in 35 games to go with a 27-5-3 record, miniscule 1.24 goals-against average and team-record .947 save percentage — which, at the time, was the third-lowest ever recorded in the history of college hockey. He immediately claimed the starting job as a freshman on a team that had been to the Frozen Four the previous season, and he never missed a start in 102 career games. He broke a school and league record with 18 career shutouts before eschewing his senior year of eligibility to sign a professional contract with the NHL's Anaheim Ducks. He played six professional seasons across three North American minor leagues.
