Kelley was an outstanding player on Coach Carl Snavely’s Big Red football teams of 1938, ’39 and ’40. He was an All-Eastern end as a junior, and in his final grid season he was selected for All-America honors. Kelley was awarded the Carl Snavely Award for Aggressiveness in football. He later served as an assistant football coach at Cornell from 1946 through 1949 and went on to become head coach at Brown in 1951. Kelley was also head football coach at Colgate. He played baseball at Cornell for two years and helped the diamondmen to an EIBL championship in 1940 as an all-league outfielder.
