Mercer was an honorable mention All-American and a first-team All-Ivy honoree in 1983. He served as team captain his senior season and went on to participate in the North-South All-Star Game. Mercer won the team’s J.E.B. Sportsmanship Award, given to the player who best combines the qualities of lacrosse ability, leadership, fairness, courteous relations and graceful acceptance of results on and off the playing field. He played in 45 career games and finished his career with 43 goals and seven assists to go along with 107 ground balls. Mercer was also named second-team All-Ivy in 1982.Â
