Bermejillo starred in the holding midfield for the Big Red during the early 30’s. Cornell posted a 12-3-2 mark over his final three seasons with the squad, including finishing as League runner-up in 1933 and a League Championship undefeated season in 1934. He became the first player since Francis Righter and Elliot Thompson in 1921-22 to earn First Team All-American selection in consecutive seasons. He was selected a First Team All-American in 1932 and 1933.
