An honorable mention All-American in 1971, Buhmann lettered twice for the Big Red after transferring from Nassau Community College, where he won a pair of Junior College National Championships. In his first season with Cornell, he alternated time in goal with Bob Rule as the Big Red finished the season with a perfect record of 11-0. The following year the pair continued to split time before Buhmann took over for an injured Rule in Cornell's first-round NCAA game vs. Brown and played the remainder of the tournament. It was his 22-save performance against Maryland that he is best remembered for as he helped propel the Big Red to the national title with a 12-6 victory over the Terps. A native of Seaford, N.Y., Buhmann played in 18 career games for Cornell, averaging 9.22 saves per contest and graduating with a .672 save percentage.
