An honorable mention All-American and second-team All-Ivy defenseman in 1979, Buckley was a two-year letter winner for the Big Red. As a senior, he received the Joe Philip Memorial Award, given annually to the player contributing most to the overall team effort, and went on to be selected to the North-South All-Star game.
