Calvo lettered as a quarterback in 1950 and 1951 after missing the 1949 season due to injury. He led the team in passing both seasons (89-of-171, 1,405 career yards). He graduated with Cornell career records for passing ydards per attempt (8.2) and yards per completion (15.8). Calvo was an Associated Press All-Ivy honorable mention, AP All-America honorable mention and AP All-East honorable mention in 1951. His 90 yard touchdown pass to Stu Merz vs. Yale in 1951 was the longest in school history. The 1950 team went 7-2 and followed that up with a 6-3 mark in 1951, including a 20-7 upset victory over defending Rose Bowl champion Michigan.
