He was a three-year letterman in both football and track. A punter in football, he was named to All-Ivy first team, All-ECAC first team, received AP Division I-AA All-America honorable mention and was the team MVP in 1986. He also received All-Ivy honorable mention in 1985. Over his three-year career, he had 161 punts for 6,154 yards for a career average of 38.2, all marks that established school records. A specialist in the javelin throw for the track team, he set the Cornell record in that event (230-1 in 1986). He was co-captain in 1986-87 and won the team's best thrower award, 1986. He placed fifth at the outdoor Heps in 1984 and was sixth in 1985, when Cornell won the team title.
