Burnap was a men’s lacrosse All-America first- team defenseman 1971 after being an honorable mention selection in 1970. He was a three-time All-Ivy honoree, including a unanimous first-team nod in 1971. Burnap was the recipient of Schmeisser Memorial Cup as nation's outstanding defenseman in Division I in 1971, when Cornell won NCAA championship and its third straight Ivy title. He served as the team’s tri-captain in 1971. Burnap also played freshman football and was a starting tight end and letterman in varsity football in 1970 but was unable to play football as sophomore and junior due to injuries.Â
