Hughes was an honorable mention All-American attackman in his first season after transferring from Nassau Community College. He paced the 1985 squad with 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points and was chosen second-team All-Ivy. Hughes served as team co-captain for the 1986 season and finished third on the team in scoring with 18 goals and 13 assists.
