McAniff was an Associated Press honorable mention All-American at halfback in 1957. He set a school single-season rushing record at the time with 700 yards and four touchdowns that season in earning first-team All-Ivy honors. He was named the team's Pop Warner Most Valuable Player Award in 1957. McAniff was a three-year letter winner on the gridiron, rushing for 1,347 yards and six touchdowns in his three seasons and graduated as the school's second-leading rusher in Big Red history. He also led the team in receiving in 1956 with 15 catches for 206 yards and two scores.
