Engelke was an All-America second-team midfielder in lacrosse in 1981. He was also a two-time All-Ivy first-team selection and was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 1981. He led the Ivy League (7-19-26) and team (15-22-37) in scoring as senior. He was voted the team MVP and was tri-captain of the 1981 team. A two-year letter winner, he transferred to Cornell from Nassau Community College where he was a two-time junior college All-American. He was a member of Team USA that competed in the World lacrosse championships in 1982, 1986 and 1990.Â
