Berry won the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships in 1962, qualifying with a two-round total of 1960 at Cornell's own Robert Trent Jones Golf Course before sweeping through the match play portion of the competition. He later competed in the NCAA Championships at Duke, though he did not qualify for the match play portion of the tournament. He earned All-American Honorable Mention in 1962. He had a 12-5 record in match play events over his collegiate career, competing mostly at the No. 1 positions in 1961 and 1962.
