Gardner was a two-time All-America selection, earning a spot on the second team in 1989 and the first team in 1990. As a senior, Gardner anchored the top position in the lineup and posted an 11-5 record en route to All-Ivy League honors. The Big Red vaulted to a No. 5 national ranking by the end of the season. Gardner was also presented the Skillman Award for Sportsmanship. Gardner, who also earned two letters with the men's soccer team, went on to compete in the World Professional Squash Association.
