Feeney was a three-year letterman in football (1957-58-59) who was selected as an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press in his final season while playing offensive guard. He was a Coaches All-Ivy first team pick, an AP All-Ivy second team selection and was chosen as honorable mention All-East. In 1958, when Cornell compiled an overall record of 6-3 and tied for second in the Ivy League, Feeney was an AP All-Ivy second-team pick and a Coaches All-Ivy honorable mention selection. The American Peoples Encyclopedia named him to its All-Ivy Scholastic first team in 1958. He was captain and team MVP in 1959.
