A second-team All-American and first-team All-Ivy midfielder in 1979, McDonald was a four-year letter winner and served as team captain as a senior. During his senior season, he was Cornell’s third leading scorer with 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points. McDonald was awarded the J.E.B. Sportsmanship Award, given to the player who best combines the qualities of lacrosse ability, leadership, fairness, courteous relations and graceful acceptance of results on and off the playing field. Following his senior season, he was selected to participate in the North-South Senior All-Star.Â
