A two-sport standout, Bayne was named to the All-Ivy first team in soccer in 1985 and '86 and the second team in '87. The runner-up for Ivy Player of the Year in 1986, he was a three-time All-New York State pick. Bayne was a three-time GTE Academic All-American, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average in mechanical engineering. He was named team MVP in both 1985 and '86 and was team captain in 1987. Bayne earned Adidas Scholar-Athletic All-America honors in 1985 and '86. He graduated as Cornell's fourth all-time leading scorer (21-6-48). He was a standout in track and field, running a leg on the 4x400m relay that placed second in IC4A final outdoors in 1986, won the indoor Heps title in 1988 and the outdoor title in 1986 and '88. Bayne set school records in the 500 and placed third at the 1986 indoor Heps. He ran a leg on the winning mile relay which set Heps and school records.
